Likely to be the most arrogant of the DBZ cast, Vegeta was the leader of the three Saiyans that had the mission of conquering earth. Raditz, the first, was eventually defeated by the combined strentgh of Piccolo, Goku, and lastly his son, Gohan.
After learning this, Vegeta set out with his loyal servant Nappa, to both avenge Raditz's death, and seek out the Dragonballs, which would then give him his only wish, Eternal Life.
Vegeta was equally defeated by Goku and his companions, but at a great price than anyone imagined. Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chiaoz and Piccolo all succumbed upon Vegeta's wrath.
After being defeated, and with his friend Nappa deceased, Vegeta fled from Earth, after being spared by Kuririn, who took mercy upon him, as was Goku's wish.
Vegeta is one of the characters of DBZ whose personality was gradually affected by Goku's actions. He slowly turns more and more to the good side, after witnessing Goku's goodness upon him, and others. However, this dosn't change the fact that he feels a never lasting hate for Goku, and above all, an enormous ammount of envy.
